When accessed via a browser, Google Mail has a restricted number of visible messages 'per page'. It's a pain to browse older messages as you have to wait for the page to refresh.
The following might be helpful...
Click Settings (top right) and under General tab, set Maximum page size to 100 conversations per page (the default is 50)...
NB. Remember to click Save Settings (at bottom of Settings page) if you make any changes.
You can also set Conversation View to On...
This will then display each email 'conversation' or 'thread' as the single initial email, with the number of messages in the conversation placed in brackets...
Clicking on a message will open it in a new page and you can then click on the Expand All button (on right) to show all the messages in the thread (sorry, "conversation")...
Click the Back To... button at the top to return to original mail box.
Searching
Rather than browse through all messages, reduce the listed messages by using the Search box(at top)...
Enter part of the sender or recipient's name or email address, or part of the subject, and click Search button. This very quickly displays all the found messages (or 'conversations' if your settings are set to this) in a new window.
